Here are the results from my experimenting on the www.hotornot.com website (June-December, 2001). If you're not familiar with that website, it's basically a way for people to submit pictures of themselves for others to rate on a scale of 1-10. For most people, it's a way to either make themselves feel good or pull a good joke on somebody. But for me and my friends, it was a test! My original theory was based on a sarcastic comment that my motorcycle makes me look better than I would by myself. Well, that comment (with the help of my friends) digressed into a huge science experiment! Below are the various odd-ball pictures of myself submitted to www.hotornot.com for peer review, along with comments on the origin of the pictures. If you happen to have any bizarre pictures of me that haven't yet been rated, be sure and let me know. I'll be happy to resurrect this experiment! And be sure to let me know if you think the ratings are too low!

Here is the initial test - the picture with me and the bike! This is a picture of me with my Kawasaki Ninja 250 on the scenic west side of South Mountain Park. The location is San Juan Point, which happens to be just over the hill from my house!

Round 2... My mom took this picture, and for one reason or another I was bummed out about something. I can't remember exactly what I was so upset about. So that answers your question... I'm not mad!

Well, I really stunk it up in Round 3! But this one still supports my original theory! This was a planned picture for school. Everyone in Dr. Morrell's Engineering Design class was asked to submit a picture so he could try and remember who we all were. He already knew me (unfortunately!), but I still had to submit a picture. It was worth points! Though it may look like just an ordinary white wall, this happens to be the famous "picture wall" in my parents' house. I call it that simply because it's the most popular spot for picture taking in the house.

Round 4... a test of something just a bit different! This is me while getting my hair bleached (again) by Felecia. The foil is to help the bleach work better. And here I am demonstrating that I have no teeth as well!

Round 5... a throwback to about three years ago when my hair follicles were less populated! This was "bald phase #2" during my Freshman year of college. I distinctly remember this picture because it was the same day I took the first pictures of my truck... the truck that still sits partly-done in my parents' garage!

Round 6... This picture is from my annual Father-Son Basketball Game on Father's Day 2001. And would you believe it, I actually grabbed the rim without a boost! Actually, I was quite excited that day. Despite not working out regularly like I did in high school, I was happy to find out that I could still dunk a basketball! Oh, and that was after the killer basketball game in the heat of the day! Just don't ask me to do it again, k?

Round 7, the first round to disprove my theory! I call it luck... This is a picture prior to my very first club experience! Taken by Chris (at his house), this was just before we headed over to Sanctuary for some serious action. The bleached hair and loud shirt sure did go over well! Oh, and I ran into my aunt while we were there! But that's another story...

Round 8. This is a picture from one of Chris' famous parties. And what is that you're holding there?... no, I didn't smoke it! I think we were all surprised to see this picture do so well. I guess there are lots of women that like the stoned look!

This is the picture from Round 9 (from the very same party). Notice Allen's bitchin' party hat... complete with nappy hair?

Round 10... does beer really make people more attractive? This is from Eddie's Bachelor Party... catching a Diamondbacks game at Bank One Ballpark. No, I didn't start drinking! Anyway, apparently that plastic cup of barley and hopps helped me!

Round 11. This is a picture from April's going away party as we started the night at Cajun House.

Round 12. This is a picture from a trip to Las Vegas for an electric drag racing competition. This was my pastime at the hotel's restaurant during dinner.

Round 13. This is a picture from a PSC party on Brian's pocketbike. The pocketbike was certainly the hit of the party!

Round 14. This is from a tubing adventure on the Salt River with some friends.

By now you can tell that the final ratings are inflated, right?

Honestly, I think the www.hotornot.com website inflates the values so that people don't feel bad about themselves. Afterall, no one wants to see that people rated you a 1.0! If you compare the frequency plots to the big red numbers, it simply doesn't make sense! I think the scores are inflated by about 2 points. Sound about right? Well, my theory was almost proven. Only 2 of 13 pictures were rated higher than my original picture with the sportbike... and one of those pictures had Felecia in it to inflate the score!
